Description

The meaning of Amethyst goes far back in history to the late 13th century from the Old French word ametiste. It was the word for ‘not intoxicating’. The mysterious purple crystal was believed to help ward off drunkenness and worn as rings by those who couldn’t resist their wine. The oldest winery was discovered to be in 4100 BC in Ancient Aremnia and the fruit of the gods took roots in every continent except Antarctica. During the pharaohs rise in Egypt they began making wine from red grapes, which closely resembled blood and thus used in ceremonies. From there wine began to colonize the entire world. The history of Amethyst has always been intertwined with the history of wine as the Greeks believed it to be associated with Bacchus the god of wine. Fine amethysts have been part of tradition for royals as well as the religious.

These amethyst obelisks hold a power all their own as they symbolize the ancient obelisks found in Egypt. Obelisks were built from stone and placed at the entrance of temples as sacred objects.  The obelisks were erected in honor of the sun god, Ra. Some of the most famous obelisks include the one at the Vatican which is the only Egyptian obelisk still standing in Rome since it was brought from Egypt.

From ancient wineries to the stone obelisks in Egypt, wine, amethyst, and obelisks have been in a dance ever since. Placing an Amethyst Obelisk in your wine cabinet and displaying it while entertaining guests for wine is sure to be a topic of conversation about love, spirituality, and history. You can also place the Amethyst Obelisk on your altar alongside a sacred glass of wine to honor your deities.
